How to Elope Near Hot Springs, Arkansas (Without the Stress)
The complete guide for couples who want an intimate, unforgettable ceremony in the Ouachita Mountains
Hot Springs, Arkansas gets all the attention — the national park, the bathhouses, the lake. But about 40 minutes south, tucked into the Ouachita Mountains near Glenwood, there's a quieter kind of magic waiting for couples who want to start their marriage on their own terms.
This is the guide we wish existed when couples first start thinking about eloping in Arkansas. No fluff. Just everything you actually need to know.
Why Elope in the Ouachita Mountains?
The Ouachita National Forest spans 1.8 million acres of some of the most beautiful and underrated mountain scenery in the South. Unlike the crowded venues around Eureka Springs or the courthouse steps in Little Rock, eloping here means genuine seclusion — no strangers walking through your ceremony, no shared parking lots, no timeline dictated by a venue coordinator.
For couples who want their wedding to feel like them — intimate, natural, and free of the noise of a traditional event — the Ouachitas deliver in a way few places can.
What You Actually Need to Elope in Arkansas
Eloping in Arkansas is refreshingly simple. Here's the complete checklist:
1. A Marriage License
You can obtain an Arkansas marriage license from any county clerk's office. There is no waiting period in Arkansas — you can get your license and get married the same day. The fee is typically around $60. You'll need a valid government-issued ID. Neither of you needs to be an Arkansas resident.
2. An Officiant
Arkansas law requires your ceremony to be performed by an ordained minister, a judge, or a justice of the peace. This is where most couples hit their first snag — finding an officiant who will come to a private location, on your schedule, without charging a fortune.
At The Serenity Woods, this is already handled. Tina — our owner and host — is an ordained minister with over a decade of experience performing ceremonies. She's performed hundreds of ceremonies across her 23 years in the wedding industry. When you book a stay at The Serenity Woods, you have the option to have Tina officiate your ceremony right on the property. No extra vendor to coordinate. No stranger reading vows from a script. Just someone who genuinely cares about making your moment meaningful.
3. A Place to Say Your Vows
This is the part most couples underestimate. A courthouse works, but it's not exactly the memory you'll want to look back on. A public park can be beautiful, but there's no privacy guarantee.
A private property ceremony is the best of both worlds — the intimacy of a personal setting with the beauty of natural surroundings. The Serenity Woods sits on private land in the Ouachita Mountains, surrounded by forest, with no neighbors in earshot and no strangers wandering through your ceremony.
4. Two Witnesses (Optional in Arkansas)
Arkansas does not require witnesses for a valid marriage. Your ceremony can be just the two of you and your officiant. If you want family or close friends present, that's entirely your call — the property can accommodate a small intimate gathering.
What Eloping at The Serenity Woods Looks Like
Here's what a typical elopement day at The Serenity Woods looks like for our couples:
Day before: You arrive, settle into the cabin, and decompress. The outdoor stone fireplace, mountain air. No rehearsal dinner to coordinate. No family drama to manage. Just the two of you getting present for what's coming.
Morning of: You get ready at your own pace. There's no schedule built by someone else. Coffee on the porch. The sound of the Ouachita Mountains waking up around you.
The ceremony: Tina comes to the property and performs your ceremony in the setting of your choice — on the deck, in the woods, by the fire pit. The ceremony is as short or as meaningful as you want it to be. Couples typically write their own vows, and Tina builds the ceremony around what matters to you as a couple.
After: You're married. You go back inside your private cabin and celebrate however you want. No reception timeline. No DJ you have to pay for two more hours. Just you, your spouse, and the Ouachita Mountains.
How Far Is The Serenity Woods from Hot Springs?
The cabin is located in Glenwood, Arkansas — about 40 minutes south of Hot Springs on Highway 70. This puts you within easy reach of:
- •Hot Springs National Park — the only national park in Arkansas, with thermal springs, hiking trails, and the iconic Bathhouse Row
- •Lake Ouachita — the largest lake entirely within Arkansas, known for its crystal-clear water
- •Garvan Woodland Gardens — a stunning 210-acre botanical garden on the shores of Lake Hamilton
- •Downtown Hot Springs — galleries, restaurants, and the historic Arlington Hotel
Many couples use their elopement stay as the first nights of their honeymoon, spending time at the cabin before exploring Hot Springs and the surrounding area.
Who Elopes at The Serenity Woods?
Our couples tend to fall into a few categories:
Couples who tried to plan a traditional wedding and burned out. They got engaged, started down the wedding-planning rabbit hole, and realized the process was making them miserable. Eloping felt like coming up for air.
Couples who always knew they wanted something small. They never wanted the big event. They wanted a moment, not a production.
Couples who are doing it for themselves, not for everyone else. They love their families, but they didn't want their wedding day shaped by other people's expectations.
Second-time couples. They did the big wedding the first time. This time, they want something that's purely about the two of them.
Whatever brings you here — you belong here.

The most common question we get: "Is this really legal? Can we just... do this?"
Yes. You can. Get your license from the Pike County Clerk's office in Murfreesboro (about 20 minutes away), come to the cabin, say your vows with Tina, and you're married. It's that simple.
